Central Elementary school has a playground with few pieces of equipment and no grass. Children play on a black top and two small spaces with sand. This school teaches about 250- first grade students and is located in the middle of town. There are no creative thinking toys or pieces of equipment for our children to grow with. The equipment that is on this playground leaves little room for pretend and imaginary play.

After we win this!...we need to loop the video from the imaginationplayground website during our parent/teacher conferences! We can have it going on every computer and on laptops in the hallways while parents are waiting. Volume turned down in the classroom, turned up in the hallways. Great way to build excitement and parent enthusiasm for volunteering and helping use the whole system!!! Think positive!!

These pictures that I am posting are of staff members that are very much hoping that this great addition will become a new part of the Central Elementary experience for generations to come. Mrs. Brassard will give such foolproof instructions on how to take care of all the pieces that it will last forever! Right, Mrs. Brassard?

To implement the water feature, there is a faucet that comes right out of the building on the playground. In the spring this building has a water day and they use that then. Many handy dads who are contractors or just good with tools could build us some moveable troughs and anything our minds come up with to use the pieces for a whole other level of play when the weather allows!! We can do this and use it to its full potential. In years to come, graduating seniors will say, "Remember that cool thing at Central that we got to play with? That was the best!!" Much unlike what my 23 year old and 20 year old can say about their time there on the playground.

There are ideas for water feature "accessories" on the playground imagination site in the videos. Neat paddles that turn as water flows,etc.

All of the 10 teachers that are in this building are willing to participate in training for how to ideally use the playground in a box. The same staff returns each year, very little turnover, so they can continue fostering great creative play on a yearly basis. Two certified teachers on playground at all times. Perfect for this new addition to the Central Playground experience.

I think this would be something the whole staff could do together like a professional development project. Great idea and we'd apply what we learn every time we have recess duty or are able to "check out" the playground in a box for our class to use on special days outside of recess. Some days the gym is empty when Mrs. Brassard is with the pre-K and kindergarten across town.
