Cambridge Common is a “Community Parkâ€, serving the immediate neighborhood as well as users from across the city and visitors to the Harvard Square area. The playground is actively used primarily by young children, ranging from toddlers to early elementary school-age children, along with their parents and caregivers. The playground acknowledges that play is a formative learning experience in which children learn how to exercise their bodies and minds, developing motor skills, strength and fitness, creativity, imagination, social skills, a sense of discovery, and an understanding of the outdoor environment. It will provide opportunities for children to explore and challenge themselves within a reasonably safe, imaginatively stimulating environment.
