Casita Center for Technology, Science, and Math is a magnet elementary school in Vista, California. It serves approximately 700 kids from grades K-5 as well as additional preschoolers. Casita is in a Federal Title I low income neighborhood with 63% of the kids being socioeconomically disadvantaged. Overall, the school is a very energetic place with teachers and administrators coming up with new ways of teaching and new educational opportunities all of the time. An Imagination Playground in a Box would be embraced by everyone. This Casita playground is tired and is in the process of being upgraded, (although progress is slow because it is being funded by the parents through the PTA). There's a large blacktop area, new swings, and old play structures which are being removed one at a time because they have become unsafe. So far the PTA has funded a small climbing structure, but it will be years of fundraising before we can replace the rest of the equipment. An Imagination Playground in a Box would add so much joy to the play space and give the kids a chance to work together to build ever-changing creations..

It looks really fun, like the kind of thing you might find at a theme park or museum. Since so many students at our school are classified as low income and can't always pay for experiences like using these huge building blocks, this would be an amazing resource to have right at the school to use every day.

And we have the people to train and supervise the kids use these. Like you said, these kids don't have the opportunity to get to downtown to take advantage of the children's museum. This would be wonderful!

This playground is long overdue for an upgrade. Great school and staff, they deserve better.

If you want to set up an event, it has been taking awhile. Just hold on, don't give up. We have e-mailed K-aboom. Haven't been able to find the event on meet up yet, though. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon.

They are really cool and they also have a learning factor built in. They get to use thier brains without even realizing it!

The playground consists of a huge blacktop and some old equipment. There's grass but almost no other trees or plants. Blah! Casita kids would be blown away by an imagination playground. It looks so neat!

Just think of the videos and power points the kids could make with the Imagination Playground in a Box! Multi use function playground, I love it!

If you have no internet like me, go to the Vista library. Or if you have no car, to a friends house.

I just wish it wasn't during the summer when it is so hard to get a hold of people. We don't have e-mail so I had to get one. I fear other parents are in the same situation.

Yes, I know that many parents can't afford internet or don't have it for other reasons. That's ok, we'll redouble our efforts to bring this incredible equipment to our kids.

When I first looked at the pictures of the existing playground equipment, my reaction was "what's the problem?" Then I looked at the "Playground In A Box" pictures and I understood. The existing playground equipment will offer physical activity for kids, but it lacks the ability to spawn social interaction and spark creativity. Take a look at the website for the PIAB and the pictures of what the kids are doing and how they are interacting. It's clear that these activities could never take place with the "old school" playground equipment that is currently in place. Do these kids deserve the opportunity to expand their creativity while getting exercise at the same time? Absolutely!
Exactly! the kids could work together as a team to build things. Normal play equipment is so static; this they could manipulate and change. So good for developing brains!
Holy mackeral! I couldn't have said it better myself! And being a math, science, and technology magnet (trying to hang in there with economics), this could REALLY benefit all. Excellent comment Georgedude!
