An opportunity to build a barrier free, safe, and accessible playground both for children with and without a disability. The Arc of Montgomery County's MPAC School and Karasik Child Care Center promote an inclusion model that all children, regardless of ability are embraced and respected as individuals at school and beyond.

Thank you for supporting us. We are most excited about the upcoming remake of our bike path. The paved road will be a great accessible space for all our children with varying abilities. We will be getting out all of our riding vehicles soon including our adapted trikes so that all the children can enjoy and participate.

Hello fans of Project Swing into Action, and congratulations! Your community is a part of the top 50 playspaces in the running for an Imagination Playground in a Box! To move on to the next step, the site owner/operator will need to fill out the application that was sent by September 2. We left a message with Eileen Coyne with this information. If they did not receive the message or are not the main contact for this space, please talk to our Grants Manager, Peyton Hutchins, at phutchins@kaboom.org or call her at 202-464-6415. We look forward to receiving your application by September 2 and having you move on to the judging phase!

We are pleased to be in the running and feel that we have a strong case for being chosen as one of the top ten. We have garnered community support for our project. It is essential that children with special needs have an inclusive, accessible, and creative play space to advance all of their skills of which they are so deserving. ' I will call the contact as I did not receive the information and I do not have much time to complete. I am not sure how I was notified. Thank you for posting it on our site.

It was a great day at the school for the meetup event. We're looking forward to coming back tomorrow for Project: Hoop meetup! Thanks so much for hosting these playdates. They are a great way for inclusion during the break between summer school and the beginning of the new school year!

Volunteers are vital to the success of renovating our community playground. The teenagers from The Arc of Montgomery County Junior Volunteer Program can serve as role models to other youth in the area. They not only had a great clean-up day project but also worked and encouraged our children with special needs to be more active participants in play and movement.

That's so great to hear!! Volunteers are invaluable and I have so much respect for them. I think they learn a lot from our kids, too! It's a win-win situation.

Not only are the children moving their bodies in all the "meetup" events, but plans for the playground contiue to move forward with the wonderful group of volunteers guiding us and lending their expertise... this is going to be a wonderful outdoor play space when it is complete!

The children in our Karasik Center should be there!

And here's an other interesting (much older) show they did on the importance of free/roaming play in childhood development (and how its being replaced by pre-fabricated toys). Another good argument for extending the excellent MPAC curriculum with an imaginative play space ;-) http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=19212514

Creative and imaginative play space is such an important aspect for children to use their imaginations and to go on adventures we as adults would never think of! The Danes have it right when they create their outdoor playspace that is not only interesting, but challenging for all children.

You and Amy are spot on. If we could win the playground in a box it would allow for endless creativity. My architect daughter teaches and lives in Denmark and just returned for a visit. The Danes do so much with less while encouraging creativity and outdoor play. I appreciate that Polly lauds our curriculum while recognizing the importance of imaginative play spaces.

What a great way to connect the community to your project while promoting healthy living habits... lets get out and move together using bikes/trikes, a small pool and sprinkler, a slide etc! I hope to participate in several of your "meetup" activities!

It was the day of all the power outages. We all missed it!

Does anyone know when the bike/trike meet up is happening? I'm interested in going to that event!
