Swan Park

Swan and 27th Street Tucson, AZ, 85711

Average Rating: 4.0 (2 ratings)

Swan Park is located in Tucson Arizona. It is part of the Naylor Neighborhood and was built in the early 1960's. There are mature trees and grass that covers 1/2 of the Park, 4 concrete picnic tables and 2 grills in the park as well as trash containers and one drinking fountain. 2 swing sets and a monkey bar have been placed in sand pits on the grassy area (East side of the park). We are in the process of completing the West end of the park and we are off to a good start. April 30, 2009 the 29th Street Coalition Weed and Seed which is made up of the 5 surrounding neighborhoods (Alvernon Heights, Julia Keen, Naylor, Myers and Roberts) partnered with the Youth Empowerment Services Network, KaBOOM!, Home Depot and the community to build a new playground. A giant maze was built to the west of the playground that is not only a fun place to play, but a constant reminder that we are a coalition of 5 neighborhoods and no matter what life's twist and turns may be - there will always be someone there to help. As soon as the funding becomes available we will work on phase two and three of the park build. This will include but not be limited to restrooms, walking path, nature trails, educations sites and water harvesting.

June 23, 2011 marks the completion of the latest additions to Swan Park. The playground has turned two this year and we now have sidewalks, benches, pick nic table, a climbing boulder and sun sails. What a beautiful playground. Take a look at our latest album of pics. Thanks KaBOOM! we couldn't have done it without you. We are now looking for funding for a dog park and community garden - So - if anyone can help - Please let us know. Thanks again - AND PLAY FUN

On April 9, 2011, we had an event called "Serve Tucson" to spruce up our now two year old KaBOOM playground. We had planned for neighbors to meet and share the morning planting flowers, removing graffiti, enjoying a BBQ and have fun with their neighbors. The weather just wasn’t going to cooperate tho. The day started out cold and got even colder when the rain began. This didn’t stop the great friends and neighbors in their mission. Flowers were planted, graffiti was removed. The BBQ had to be postponed due to rain, but that just gave us an excuse to have another event. For all their hard work, the volunteers were rewarded by Mother Nature with water for the freshly planted flowers. (It rained on and off all day giving the freshly planted flowers a great start)

Swan Park is located Tucson Arizona and is part of the Naylor Neighborhood. In 2000 Naylor neighborhood along with 4 surrounding neighborhoods came together to enrich the quality of life for residents by implementing community-based, comprehensive, multi-agency strategies to “weed” out crime violence and drugs, and to “seed” the area with educational, recreational, social and economic development, thereby contributing to a vital, safe and supportive environment. We have chosen Swan Park as one of the 29th Street Coalition Weed and Seed projects because of it's central location in the 5 neighborhoods that make up the coalition. We hope to provide a place where children can play safely, a place for gatherings, parties and meetings, a sense of community, exercise opportunities for all ages, bicycle and walking connections across the community and learning demonstrations about ecology and the wash.
