This playspace opened in 2010 and is only the fourth operating Adventure Playground in the US. It promotes children's creativity, exploration, and problem-solving skills by providing a variety of loose parts and tools that kids can use to construct and/or shape the environment. It's a wonderfully stimulating place that really gives kids opportunities for critically necessary free, unstructured play. This Adventure Playground is one of kind-it is the only Adventure Playground that takes place in a wooded area. Upon arrival parents/guardians sign their child in, and staff will check out a tool box. In each tool box is: a pair of youth sized work gloves, a hammer, a saw, a screw driver, a wood crayon, a level, and a tape measure. Each tool box also features a supply of nails and screws. Several staff members are placed throughout the two acre site to maintain safety and offer assistance to youth, although they do not contribute in offering suggestions for how to play. This space is designed for youth to use their imaginations and create whatever they dream up. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to play with them, but not do everything for them.
